Teachers of the Year Program

The Marietta City Schools (MCS) Teachers of the Year (TOTY), are educational ambassadors, and act as advocates for the school system, its students, and its teachers. These teachers are exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled.

These are teachers who

  • Inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn.
  • Have the respect and admiration of students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Play an active and useful role in the community as well as in the school.

Marie Sherbondy

Marietta High School – Marie Sherbondy

Marie is a math teacher and math department chair at Marietta High School. She works with the School Governance Team, School Improvement Committee, and the KSU Mathematics Advisory Council. She is also a REACH mentor and mentors new teachers.

Chris Galpin

A.L. Burruss Elementary – Chris Galpin

Chris is a first grade teacher with a gifted endorsement. She has worked as a first grade teacher for two years and as a second grade teacher for five years, and she has served as an EIP and as a MILE teacher. Chris mentors new teachers and as a first grade team leader. She is also active on the committees that assist with the Language/Communication focus at A.L. Burruss Elementary. .

   
Melissa Epstein

Dunleith Elementary – Melissa Epstein

Melissa is a fifth grade teacher at Dunleith Elementary. She started at A.L. Burruss in 1988 as a teacher’s aide. Melissa has served on several writing committees as well as Language Arts and Science textbook adoption committees.

   
Erin Maziek Babb

Hickory Hills Elementary – Erin Maziek Babb

Erin is a Special Education Teacher. She has mentored new special education hires, and has worked with students in teacher preparation programs. She is also a 2005 Kiwanis Scholarship recipient.

   
Megan Buchholz

Lockheed Elementary – Megan Buchholz

Megan is a fourth grade teacher and a fourth grade team leader as well as a mentor teacher. She co-chairs Lockheed’s School Governance Team and is an active member of the Marietta Reads! committee.

   
Audrey Bennett

Park Street Elementary – Audrey Bennett

Audrey is a third grade teacher. She worked at Park Street as a paraprofessional while pursuing her teaching degree before becoming a resource teacher. Currently, she is working to complete her math endorsement program.

   
Patricia Natalino

Sawyer Road Elementary – Patricia Natalino

Patricia is a first grade teacher. She has served on the staff development committee at Lockheed and Sawyer Road, coordinated staff development hours, and attended level 2 training for the PYP IB Program.

   
Christine Ramirez

West Side Elementary – Christine Ramirez

Christine is a special education teacher. She has participated in the Boys Town training program and CPR training. She also works with students who have not responded to current interventions.

   
Elaine Reisenauer

MCAA – Elaine Reisenauer

Elaine is a fifth grade teacher. She is active in the PTSA and volunteers in her community as a teacher for religious education classes. She also provides meals for the needy and serves as a lector for her church community.

   
Carrie Curnutt

Marietta Sixth Grade Academy – Carrie Curnutt

Carrie Curnutt is a special education teacher. She is ESOL and Gifted Endorsed, and is training in Positive Schools, Learning Focus Coaching and MYP.

   
Christie Sippola

Marietta Middle School – Christie Sippola

Christie is a special education teacher. She worked at Marietta Middle School as a paraprofessional while obtaining her teaching degree. She recently achieved highly qualified status in every subject area at the elementary and middle grades level and middle grades reading.

   
Justin Trice

Marietta PLC at Woods-Wilkins – Justin Trice

Justin is a Social Studies teacher. He has participated in the Georgia Performance Standards rollout training, Smart Interactive Board training, and the Constitution Institute Series at Georgia State University.
