Sept. 16, 2008 – SPLOST III Passes
On Sept. 16, 2008, voters in the City of Marietta and throughout Cobb County approved the SPLOST renewal in a special election by a vote of 21,859 (a 60.8 percent approval rating). The third SPLOST term runs from Jan. 1, 2009 through Dec. 31, 2013, and is expected to collect $797.6 million for the Cobb School District and $59 million for Marietta City Schools. MDJ Article»

June 10, 2008 - SPLOST III Resolution Approved
The Board of Education of the City of Marietta, in a 6-0-1 vote, approved a five-year, $59 million plan for schools to be funded by an extension of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). The school board approved the plan as part of a resolution calling for a SPLOST III public referendum scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008.
