05/16/2012 Board Approves Tentative FY2013 Budget, May 15
In a vote of 6:0, the Board of Education of the City of Marietta approved at their May 15, 2012 meeting, the Superintendent's recommendation to tentatively adopt the Fiscal Year 2013 (FY2013) budget as submitted for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2012. The tentatively adopted budget balances revenues and expenses at $77.7 million. The budget is available for public review leading up to the June 19, 2012, work session when the board is expected to approve the FY2013 budget. Fiscal Year 2013 runs from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013.

MHS Auditorium Project, Jan. 24

The Board of Education of the City of Marietta will host a public education/information forum Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at 7 p.m. at West Side Elementary School located at 344 Polk Street in Marietta. Attendees will learn about the March 6, 2012, general obligation bond referendum for construction of a multi-use auditorium at Marietta High School. Following a brief presentation, the public can share their comments with school board members.

10/26/2011 Council Approves MHS Auditorium Bond Referendum - March 2012 Ballot
On March 6, 2012, City of Marietta voters will get to decide whether to approve a $7 million bond referendum to build a multi-use auditorium at Marietta High School (MHS). The Marietta City Council at their October 26, 2011, meeting approved a Resolution calling for Referendum by the citizens of the City of Marietta on whether or not to adopt up to $7,145,000 of City of Marietta general obligation bonds for the purpose of financing at MHS a portion of the costs of acquiring, constructing, improving, modifying, renovating and equipping, including capitalized interest and related expenses, a multi-use auditorium, instructional space and associated facilities. If voters approve the bond, Marietta's school millage rate could remain unchanged for at least the first two years of the bond, and increase by approximately $11 per year (on a $200,000 home) in year three to five of the bond.

10/19/2011 Board Approves Date Change 2011-2012 School Calendar
The Board of Education of the City of Marietta, at their Oct. 18, 2011, meeting approved a date change to the 2011-2012 School Calendar. The date change moves the Teacher Professional Learning date from Feb. 7, 2012, to March 6, 2012 to coincide with the Presidential Primary election date. The board approved the calendar revision in a vote of 7:0.

06/21/2011 Board Approves FY12 Budget
The Board of Education of the City of Marietta adopted the Fiscal Year 2012 (FY12) general fund budget at their June 21, 2011, meeting. The board voted 6-0 to adopt the budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2011. The adopted budget balances revenues and expenditures at $74.5 million, compared to FY11's amended budget of $77.6 million, a decrease of 4 percent, or $3.1 million.

Cobb Alcohol TaskforceThe Board of Education of the City of Marietta, at their regularly scheduled meeting of March 15, 2011, at 7 p.m., will proclaim April 2011 – Alcohol Awareness Month in recognition of National Alcohol Awareness Week. Students/Staff To Makeup Missed School Days

At their Tuesday, Jan. 18 meeting, the Board of Education of the City of Marietta approved the Superintendent’s recommendation, in a vote of 7:0, to require Marietta City Schools’ students to makeup the equivalent of four of the five school days missed last week due to severe winter weather school closures.

All students are required to attend school March 14 and 15, and the class day will be extended by one hour Jan. 31 to Feb. 4, March 7 to 11, and March 14 to 16.

Transportation will be provided with school buses departing an hour later per a modified Bell Schedule in effect on those days. A letter from the Superintendent explaining the recommendation will be sent home to all MCS parents/guardians this week.

12/21/2010 Board Adopts Two-Year School Calendar
The Board of Education of the City of Marietta adopted a two-year school calendar at their Dec. 21 meeting. The 2011-2012 school calendar begins classes Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, and the 2012-2013 calendar begins classes Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012. The board approved the calendar in a vote of 6:0, with board member Logan Weber absent.

For the fifth year running, Marietta City Schools (MCS) placed in the Top 10 U.S. School Districts in Digital Technology. MCS tied for 9th place, among medium-sized school districts (2,500 – 15,000 students), in the nation’s seventh annual Digital School Districts Survey by e.Republic’s Center for Digital Education and the National School Boards Association (NSBA). 06/17/2009 Board Approves FY10 Budget
The Board of Education of the City of Marietta adopted the FY10 budget at their Jun. 16 meeting. The board voted 7-0 to adopt the budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1. The adopted budget balances revenues and expenses at $80.8 million, compared to FY09's balanced budget of $83.3 million, a decrease of 3 percent, or $2.53 million.
05/19/2009 Board Tentatively Adopts FY10 Budget
The Board of Education of the City of Marietta tentatively adopted the FY10 budget at their May 19 meeting. The Superintendent recommended the tentative adoption of the FY2010 budget. The revised budget includes a half-step application funded by the federal ARRA funds and allocated appropriately throughout the budget to all salary schedules. In addition, the revised budget includes a $379,600 adjustment from Outgoing Transfers to Improvement of Instruction Services, to include the Technology Department budget. The board approved the Superintendent’s recommendation in a vote of 6-0, with board member Scott Allen absent.

The Board of Education of the City of Marietta approved a revision to the 2009-2010 school calendars at their Apr. 21 meeting. The revised 2009-2010 school calendar reduced new teacher orientation from four days to two. The board approved the revised calendar in a vote of 7-0.

02/10/2009 Board Approves Personnel and Program Changes FY10 Budget
On Feb. 10, 2009, the Board of Education of the City of Marietta approved a number of personnel and program changes for FY10. Included are workforce reductions resulting from an increase in class size that effectively saves the district $2.5M in additional staffing and other resources. Restructuring of other operational areas and program changes will save the system approximately $766,000.
