Founded
The Marietta City Schools system was created in February 1892, when 382 Marietta citizens cast votes in favor of a public school system for the city. The school bell rang for the first time on September 5, 1892, as 733 students attended class in four different locations. Joseph F. Stewart was the system's first superintendent.
Number of Schools
Marietta City Schools (MCS) serve some 8,000 students at eight elementary choice schools—one of which is a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Magnet—one middle school, one sixth-grade school, and one high school. MCS serves approximately 8,000 students at small neighborhood schools with the dynamics of an urban school district.
