Referral, Evaluation, and Placement Cycle

New students will be referred and evaluated as soon as possible after enrollment.

Kindergarten students will be referred and evaluated during the fall semester, with classes beginning in January. Gifted teachers and/or counselors will collect data for automatic referrals when standardized test results are released in the fall and spring semesters. If a K-5 student is found eligible after the end of the 3rd quarter of the school year, placement will occur at the beginning of the next school year. If a 6 – 12 student is found eligible after the beginning of second semester, placement will occur at the beginning of the next school year.

Note: Students are not placed temporarily in the Gifted program pending receipt of school transcripts and confirmation of gifted eligibility and prior gifted education services.

Note: Students who are enrolled in home schools, private schools or parochial schools but would otherwise be eligible to enroll in Marietta City Schools shall not be eligible for services through the program for the gifted, nor shall they be eligible for evaluation to determine eligibility for gifted services.
