Marietta Middle School students meeting, exceeding standards under new principal


Marietta Middle School
saw a rise in students meeting or exceeding standards during Forrestella Taylor’s first year as principal.
Members of the Marietta Board of Education said they were impressed with Taylor’s balanced scorecard presentation highlighting the school’s progress at Tuesday’s meeting.

Mayor & City Council Honor Park Street Elementary Contest Winners


On Wednesday October 8th, Mayor Tumlin and City Council honored several students from Park Street Elementary School for winning a poster contest as part of the nationwide October 5-11th Public Power and Clean Water Week.



Clean Water Contest Winners
Theme: "Why Water is Important to Me"

Grand Prize: $100 Takara Scurry, 5th grade
1st Place: $50 Hamzah Hilali, 4th grade
2nd Place: $25 Nathaly Santos, 3rd grade
3rd Place: $15 Angel Matias, 3rd grade
 
Public Power Contest Winners
Theme: "Why Electricity is Important to Me"

Grand Prize: $100 Jaleel Smith, 3rd grade
1st Place: $50 Myles Cook, 3rd grade

High Museum Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) Tour and Workshop 


To support the national initiative to improve teaching and learning in STEAM, the High Museum provided a new docent-guided tour that challenges Marietta Middle School students to be creative problem solvers.  The October 10th tour was followed by a hands-on workshop where students were presented with a design challenge and encouraged to use their twenty-first-century thinking skills to create a solution.
