11/6 SCHOOL GOVERNANCE TEAMS/SAWYER SCHOOL COUNCIL SOLICIT INPUT - PROPOSED 2010-2011 SCHOOL CALENDARS
Marietta City Schools School Governance Teams (SGT) and the School Council at Sawyer Road Elementary will work with their individual schools to solicit input from parents and guardians, and district employees, regarding three proposed calendar options for the 2010-2011 school year. 11/3 DISTRICT ANNOUNCES APPLICATION WINDOW ELEMENTARY CHOICE ACADEMIES PROGRAM
Marietta City Schools recently announced the open application period for its elementary schools Choice Academies program for 2010-2011. Interested Marietta City residents wishing to apply for the MCS Choice Academies program must submit the appropriate documentation between Nov. 9, 2009 and Jan. 15, 2010. The Choice Academies application
deadline is Jan. 15, 2010.

11/2 SIXTH GRADE ACADEMY STUDENTS SELECTED FOR STATEWIDE HONOR CHORUS
Marietta Sixth Grade Academy
(MSGA) students recently auditioned for the Sixth Grade Statewide Honor Chorus. Three MSGA students-Michael Olarigibe, Erin Walker, and Tiffany Rose successfully auditioned and will participate in the choral event scheduled for Feb. 5-6, 2010, at the Clayton County Schools Performing Arts Center in Jonesboro, GA. 2009-2010 Medallion Winners  

MARIETTA READS! PARTNERS WITH MELLOW MUSHROOM FOR MONTHLY SPIRIT NIGHTS
Beginning in November, Mellow Mushroom Kennesaw will host Marietta Reads! Spirit Nights on the second Tuesday of each month, with a portion of proceeds to benefit Marietta Reads! The first Marietta Reads! Spirit Night will be held Tuesday, Nov. 10 from 3 p.m. to close. Other dates in 2009 are Nov. 17 and Dec. 8. The initiative includes both dine-in and take-out orders. Mellow Mushroom Kennesaw is located at 1133 Chastain Road, Kennesaw, GA 30144.

WEST SIDE CELEBRATES
RED RIBBON WEEK, OCT. 26 - 30

During Red Ribbon Week at West Side Elementary, the school hosted a number of guests who talked to the students about self-respect, saying No to Drugs, and Halloween safety. Among the guest speakers were Judge Juanita Stedman (Cobb County Juvenile Judge), Judge Adele Grubbs (Cobb County Superior Court Judge), and Taylor Larkin - Marietta Martial Arts Instructor. BURRUSS HOSTS MATH NIGHT, OCT. 27
A.L. Burruss Elementary math night provided parents, students, and teachers an opportunity to play some cool math games. Parents and students enjoyed learning new math games to play at home, and families were each given a packet of math games to make at home.

MCAA/MSGA ANNUAL BUS DRIVER APPRECIATION BRUNCH, OCT. 23
As part of National School Bus Safety Week, Marietta Sixth Grade Academy (MSGA), and the Marietta Center for Advanced Academics (MCAA) recently hosted their annual Bus Drivers Appreciation Brunch. This year, the MSGA PTSA and the MCAA PTSA co-sponsored the event, providing food, door prizes, and volunteers.


BURRUSS 5TH GRADE CHORUS PERFORMS, OCT. 22
Eight A. L. Burruss Elementary 5th grade chorus students recently performed alongside Cobb and Douglas County 5th graders at the Georgia Music Educators Association District 12 Honor Chorus at First Presbyterian Church in Marietta.

 

REP. MORGAN MCAA TEACHER FOR A DAY, OCT. 15

State Representative Alisha Morgan recently participated in the Cobb Chamber of Commerce "Teacher for a Day" program at Marietta Center for Advanced Academics (MCAA). Morgan partnered with MCAA Teacher of the Year, Elaine Reisenauer. MCAA students and staff appreciate Rep. Morgan taking time to be Teacher for a Day.
