DISTRICT EARNS SIX GEORGIA SCHOOL
NUTRITION ASSOCIATION AWARDS

2008 Gold Scroll Award Winner – 2nd year running

Marietta, GA - Marietta City Schools (MCS) recently earned six Awards for Excellence in School Nutrition from the Georgia School Nutrition Association (GSNA) at the 2008 Annual GSNA Conference in Savannah, Georgia.

Among the most important awards earned by the Marietta City school district are the School District of Excellence in Child Nutrition Award—presented by the National Association of School Nutrition (NASN) to only seven school systems statewide; and the
GSNA President’s Award for Achievement—presented to only one school system for the best school nutrition program statewide.

For the second year running, Marietta City Schools earned the prestigious Gold Scroll Award—the highest award for nutrition education and program achievements; and the Marketing and Publicity Award—only school system in Georgia to earn this award—
presented to honor excellence in marketing the district’s school nutrition program.

MCS also received a Georgia ALIRT Award—presented to honor activities that help create congressional awareness of the importance of school meals and the district’s wellness policy. In addition, MCS employees picked up four Ruby Slipper Awards for individual
achievement. The four award recipients were Wanda Clackum, A.L. Burruss Elementary; Wendy Cross, Marietta Sixth Grade Academy; Marian Freeman, MCS Food Services Training Manager; and Sandy Laffan, MCS Food Services Director.
