SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS TRAINING
ENSURES EDUCATIONAL QUALITY
Board members recognized at Aug. 18 meeting
Marietta, GA - Members of the Board of Education of the City of Marietta have completed the
required board member training activities sponsored by the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA). At the Aug. 18, 2009 scheduled school board meeting, Marietta school board members
will receive certificates of recognition for successfully completing their GSBA training for the
period July 1, 2008 – June 30, 2009.
Georgia was among the first states in the nation to require that local school board
members receive training to ensure quality educational leadership. “Ongoing professional
development by our board members ensures quality educational leadership,” said Dr. Emily
Lembeck, Marietta City Schools Superintendent.
The Board of Education of the City of Marietta has also met the criteria for GSBA School
Board of Distinction and is undergoing the recertification process for 2009.
In October 2008, The Center for Digital Education, the National School Boards
Association and Converge Online magazine named Marietta City Schools among the winners of
the survey that highlights exemplary school boards and districts’ use of technology to govern the
district, communicate with students, parents and the community to improve district operations.
