Dunleith Elementary School Uses Audiobooks
Motivates Readers, Develops Language Proficiency
Park Street Elementary and MCAA also use audiobooks
Marietta, GA - Dunleith Elementary School now uses digital audiobooks to provide reading
support across multiple grade and reading ability levels. Park Street Elementary and the Marietta
Center for Advanced Academics (MCAA) are also using Miniature Playaway digital audiobooks
to motivate more students to read, and promote language proficiency for students with limited
English-language proficiencies.
"The audiobooks provide a reading model through professional narration, which helps
develop the inner voice and eliminates decoding frustrations. They also promote language
proficiency for English Language Learners (ELLs) in grades K-5, who listen to the language
modeled by different native speakers," states Tiffany Pollock, principal of Dunleith Elementary
School. "The audiobooks have proven to be an excellent choice for readers at all levels."
Digital audiobooks appeal to strong readers who like the change of pace offered by
listening to an audiobook while reading the text. "It seems more students are also earning Marietta Reads! Accelerated Reader points quicker because the audiobook’s dramatic recordings
hook students’ interests and motivate them to read more," added Pollock.
