District Elementary Choice Academies
Random Drawing Scheduled – Feb. 10
Random selection drawing, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m.
Marietta, GA - Marietta City Schools (MCS) will hold a Choice Academies random drawing for
student placement at A.L. Burruss Elementary School, at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 10 at the
MCS Central Administrative Offices located at 250 Howard Street in Marietta. The random
drawing is for student placements for the 2010-2011 school year. Parents/guardians do not have
to be present in order for their child’s application to be included in the drawing.
“Our random drawing and selection process ensures equity and fairness of student
placements whenever Choice Academies enrollment requests exceed school or grade level
capacities,” said Preston Howard, MCS Assistant Superintendent Operations and Policy.
A unique alphanumerical identifier identifies each Choice Academies application, and the
corresponding alphanumeric identifiers are placed in a rotary cage for the random drawing. Each
number drawn and the corresponding applicant’s name are entered on a tally sheet in the order in
which they were randomly selected. Student placements in the available Choice Academies seats
at each school are based on the order in which the applicant’s number was drawn. The process
continues until all choice seats are filled.
Applicants not selected can elect to attend their second choice school or go on a wait list.
The wait list is viable through the third day of the new school year. Wait listed applicants are
selected in the same order they were during the random selection process.
