Sawyer Road Elementary Expands Participation – Wolf Trap
Alliance Theatre Institute for Educators and Teaching Artists
One of 12 Metro area schools selected for 2010—2013 program

Marietta, GA - Sawyer Road Elementary is one of only 12 elementary schools selected to participate in the Alliance Theatre Institute for Educators and Teaching Artists partnership program. The Institute program focus on Georgia Wolf Trap (Pre-K – K) offers quality professional learning for teachers who want to integrate drama strategies with the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS).

"This coming year, the Alliance Theatre wants to expand their Dramaturgy work at our school by adding one fourth grade class, and including all the first grade classes," said Jill Sims, Principal of Sawyer Road Elementary. "The Institute partnership also directly supports our International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program, and our students benefit by increasing language arts skills through drama."

Each June, Sawyer Road's kindergarten teachers attend a 3-day workshop at the Alliance Theatre Teacher Institute, and an artist-in-residence works with each teacher and class for 14 sessions per year. The Institute program components include a Summer Seminar, a field trip to The Alliance Theatre or Collision Tour, play previews and workshops, an in-school residency and increased opportunities for PLU courses in theatre arts.
