Marietta Reads! 10th Annual
Kickoff Event, Sept. 29
Event celebrates literacy and reading
Marietta, GA - Marietta Reads!, the Marietta City Schools (MCS) citywide effort to foster reading and literacy in the community, celebrates its tenth-year anniversary Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, in Glover Park in the Marietta Square, 50 Park Square, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"Marietta Reads! has made a significant impact on promoting reading in our schools, and engages our community to support the work we do to improve literacy," said Jill Sims, MCS Executive Director, Curriculum and Instruction. "As a school system, we reinforce the importance of reading to all of our students every day."
The annual Marietta Reads! event offers a variety of literacy activities— a book fair, book costume characters, celebrity readers— and family-friendly entertainment including "A Great Place to Read" vignettes created by local designers, "Passport to Reading" where students get their Passport stamped for each "A Great Place to Read" location they visit, school drama and dance performances, and guest appearances by Marietta Reads! mascot Mari-Etta.
Marietta Reads! sponsors can give the gift of reading to someone else. Corporate/Business Sponsor contributions, and Personal and Individual Sponsorships help purchase books, supplies, and other resources necessary for implementing sound literacy programs. For more information on becoming a Marietta Reads! supporter, contact Jill Sims at (770) 422-3500 Ext. 228.
