MCS Social Workers Celebrate National
School Social Work Week, March 3 - 9
MARIETTA, GA - Marietta City Schools (MCS) celebrates National School Social Work Week, March 3 - 9, 2013, and salutes school social workers Kristin Hanfland, Adrienne McGahee-Jackson, Valarie Simpson, and Milena Skollar.
“Every day, our school social workers address barriers to learning, as they support teachers in preparing our students to be college and career ready. They also serve as a vital link between the schools and home to promote the academic success of all students,” states Dayton Hibbs, MCS Associate Superintendent.
School social work is a specialized area of practice within the broad field of the social work profession. School social workers bring unique knowledge and skills to the school system and the student services team. In particular, School social workers are trained in mental health and behavioral concerns, positive behavioral support, academic and classroom support, consultation with teachers, parents and administrators as well as with individual and group counseling techniques.
“School social workers are valued members of the multidisciplinary team serving students to ensure academic success. We encourage school staff, parents and community members to take a few moments during National School Social Work week to thank their School Social Worker,” added Hibbs.
