Three MCS State Winners Named 2013
Fair Bear Creative Writing Competition
MARIETTA, GA - Three Marietta City Schools (MCS) students are among the state winners of the 2013 Fair Bear Creative Writing Competition. The fourth grade school system winner was James McPherson representing Hickory Hills Elementary (teacher Allison Elder); Valencia Ajeh from Lockheed Elementary (teacher Tanya Bradley) took fifth grade honors; and Ani Henderson from Marietta Sixth Grade Academy (teacher Nina Small) claimed the sixth grade win.
The Fair Bear Creative Writing Competition is a themed contest open to fourth, fifth, and sixth graders throughout Georgia. Students write stories to compete for the best in each grade level at their school and winners progress to compete for best in the school system. The system winners move on the Georgia National Fair to compete against stories from all over Georgia. The top three winners from each grade level win a trip to the Fair to accept their awards.
“We salute these creative writers and their inspiring teachers,” said Beth Ogletree, MCS Director, Elementary Curriculum and Special Programs. “These student winners of the annual Fair Bear Creative Writing Competition submitted well-written, creative stories that were magical and enjoyable to read.”
“Entries submitted for the 2013 Fair Bear Creative Writing Competition had to address the story theme Fair Bear Finds Magic in the Fair, and students had to describe Fair Bear’s adventures at the Fair, the magical thing that Fair Bear experiences, (an object, an event, a person, an animal, etc.), and what made it magical,” added Ogletree.
