MSGA Educator Selected To Serve On Georgia
Children’s Book Award Selection Committee
Edwards, Media Specialist at Marietta Sixth Grade Academy
MARIETTA, GA -– Jean Edwards, a Media Specialist at Marietta Sixth Grade Academy (MSGA), is one of six educators statewide chosen to serve on the 2013-2014 Georgia Children’s Book Award selection committee.
“The committee made an outstanding choice in selecting Ms. Edwards,” said Gabe Carmona principal of Marietta Sixth Grade Academy. “Her commitment to the MSGA Reading Bowl and Georgia Library Media Association throughout the years is commendable. By serving on this committee all students statewide in grades 4-8 will benefit from her knowledge in selecting quality literature.”
The Georgia Children’s Book Award Selection Committee is comprised of teachers and media specialists from across the state. They nominate novels for the awards, engage in online discussion and meet to discuss the novels on the selection list using previously outlined criteria. The final selections are included in the elementary and middle grades reading lists of the statewide 2013-2014 Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl.
The prestigious Georgia Children's Book Award, established in 1968, is sponsored by the College of Education at the University of Georgia, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Education. Nominated books serve as the basis for the annual Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl competition. Thousands of schools throughout Georgia participate in this competition, including all of the Marietta
