MSGA Educator - Guest Presenter
2013 Georgia Mathematics Conference
Powell, mathematics teacher - Marietta Sixth Grade Academy

MARIETTA, GA -–Ashley Powell, a mathematics teacher at the Marietta Sixth Grade Academy (MSGA), recently presented at the 2013 Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics (GCTM) Conference. Attendees included over 2,000 mathematics educators from across the state.

Powell’s session, “Resource Revision Team Frameworks Update” shared outcomes from work performed over the summer by a team of Georgia teachers on the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards Mathematics Framework. Powell explained, “As a member of the sixth grade revision team I felt it was paramount that teachers statewide have the opportunity to hear about the changes to the Georgia Performance Standards Mathematics Framework first hand.”

Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference attendees learned classroom practices central to teaching the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards, how to incorporate the latest technology in their classrooms, as well as strategies to address the needs of every student. A special exhibit, Math Midway 2 Go (MM2GO) from the Museum of Mathematics in New York City was a highlight of the conference.
