What a busy month January has been, and it looks like February has even more to offer! Calendars came home in Burruss Express this week, and important dates are also noted in the newsletter below.
Please make sure you have made arrangements for early dismissal on February 13 and 14. Elementary schools are dismissing early to have parent conferences in the afternoons. If you would like to schedule a conference with your child's teacher, please reach out directly to the teacher. Also remember that schools are closed the following week for Winter Break!
Can we talk about attendance? It is so important for a child's academic and social success to be at school on time every day. We are closely monitoring attendance this year and are following MCS policy in contacting families after 5 unexcused absences. If your child is sick, by all means, please keep him/her home. When s/he returns, simply send in a note either from you or from the doctor to excuse the absence within three days of his/her return. Our custodial staff is working hard to sanitize surfaces to prevent the spreading of viruses, but the most important thing for ALL of us to remember--adults and children--is to consistently wash our hands with soap and water.
I am so proud of the teaching and learning that is happening in our building. Teachers are working so very hard to grow every child every day. While there is a designated Teacher Appreciation Week in March, will you consider taking the time to send your child's teacher an encouraging note? Winter months are hard on everyone, and a few kind words can truly brighten anyone's day!
Thank you for your support of our school. Burruss is better because you are here!

A.L. Burruss Elementary
Hello Burruss Families! The ALB PTA will host "A Taste of Burruss," at the next general PTA meeting scheduled for February 6th at 6pm. We are asking our amazing and diverse Burruss families to sign up to bring food to share from their heritage. We would love to have a variety of dishes from all over the world. If you are willing to share your culture through food, please sign-up based on the region of the world you come from. Please tell us what you are bringing, the country the dish is from and any special accommodations you may need. We will provide table space, table cloths, plates, napkins, and cutlery. Please bring your own serving dishes, serving utensils and be available to serve your dish and answer any questions. Feel free to bring in decor, photos, or information about your food and country. See you there!

Book Fair: February 7-14
Follett offers a cashless system for families! Rather than send your child with dollars and change, did you know that you can set up an account for them online and they can pay through that account at the book fair?! It's so easy! Even grandparents or distant friends and relatives can contribute money to the account for your child to shop. Check out this link to set up your child's account: www.Read-a-thon.com/books
