    UNIFORM UPDATE

As the weather turns colder, we want to make sure that our students are healthy and warm while still remaining in uniform. Our students are welcomed to bring their coats to school, but we ask that they remove them upon arrival into the building. We hope that students wear their school sweatshirts/zip-ups or a plain grey, blue, black zip-ups to stay warm in the building.

If a student wants to get a locker to house their coats during the school day, a locker application can be picked up and dropped off in the main office.

    GRADING UPDATE

Parents, thank you so much for monitoring your child’s Aspen account. As we prepare students for high school, our goal is to support them in meeting grading deadlines. A student that fails to submit an assignment may earn a ‘0’ for that particular assignment. If your student has any missing assignments, please encourage him/her to submit this work in a timely fashion. Together, we can take the middle to the top!

    PARENT INFORMATION CORNER

This week we want to share this newsletter that covers topics such as building a relationship with your tween, how to get them reading, and how to build empathy within the student.

    MYP: DID YOU KNOW?

ib-logo Welcome to the latest edition of MYP: Did you know? The focus of this edition is INTERNATIONAL-MINDEDNESS, which is key to a goal of all IB programmes to develop internationally minded people. The aim is for students to see the connections between themselves and others around the globe, as well as their shared responsibilities to preserve our planet.

In regards to international-mindedness, did you know?

    • It requires being KNOWLEDGEABLE about the world, and being OPEN-MINDED about learning about local and global issues and ideas.
    • With globalization and new technologies coming to us constantly, international-mindedness is so important for our students so they are encouraged to be curious as INQUIRERS about situations within and beyond their immediate surroundings. Also, at MMS, we have a very international community of learners which enhances the opportunities for learning about other people, cultures, and nations.
    • The IB sets the stage for our students to be REFLECTIVE about their own cultures, identities, and perspectives and those of others. We nurture this so that they will increase their abilities to show respect for and collaborate with others from various backgrounds and cultures or, be BALANCED. This is necessary for a more peaceful and sustainable world, another goal of IB education.
    • The IB requires students to be COMMUNICATORS by studying or studying in more than one language. The reason for doing so is to heighten students’ intercultural understanding and respect.
    • The IB encourages meaningful community service and global engagement. In doing so, students can become critical THINKERS, considering their own position in relationship to power, influence, and resources in a CARING
    • The IB seeks to empower students to take action. The vision is for each student to become compelled to be PRINCIPLED, RISK-TAKERS, that consider what they know, believe, and feel to make a positive difference in the world.

The words highlighted in the in blue, are the attributes of the IB Learner Profile, and are considered to describe an international-minded person.
