MCS COVID-19 Case Status Report
Marietta City Schools continues to diligently monitor the health and safety of our school community. Effective September 18, 2020, this webpage will be updated every Friday to provide the updated total number of active COVID-19 positive cases in our MCS schools.
As explained in our Family Communications Process, we will notify families and employees whenever there is a positive COVID-19 case at their school. Students and staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 or who have recently had close contact with a person with COVID-19 must not return to school until they meet our Return to School criteria.
Additionally, students and staff must not come to school with a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, and must not come to school until they have been fever-free, without the use of fever-reducing medication, for at least 24 hours.
Q: “I’ve heard there’s a case at my school but it’s not shown on the chart.”
A: Our process is: confirm the positive case, contact trace to identify close contacts, notify the close contacts who need to quarantine, send a schoolwide email, and then show current (not cumulative) totals on this page every Friday. Please note that the chart includes positive cases only, not close contacts in quarantine.
Q: “My child’s teacher has been absent for more than a week. Is this a positive case we have not been made aware of?”
A: Remember that all extended absences are not positive cases. Many situations (another illness, an injury, staying home with a quarantined child, etc.) could cause an absence of multiple days.
Q: "I know a student who is having to quarantine but I don’t see a case reported at their school.”
A: People do not just have to quarantine due to an exposure at a school. They could be under quarantine as a close contact to a positive case in their family, at church, from a non-school activity, etc.
Q: "I received a schoolwide email about a positive case but it is not included on the chart.”
A: The chart on this page is updated every Friday by 6:00 p.m.
