Why should I join PTA?The main reason to join the Parent Teacher Association is to benefit children. In doing so, you also help your school. But there are many more advantages. Here are just a few:* Get Connected. There’s no better way to know what’s happening in your school.* Discover Great Resources. The PTA offers a variety of programs designed for parents as well as students.* Speak Up. Because the PTA is a forum for exchanging ideas, you are encouraged to make suggestions.* Witness Improvement. By getting involved at your child’s school you’ll be part of the solution, helping makepositive changes.* You can support student activities at Lockheed without having to volunteer.* You get a voice in state and local advocacy efforts.* PTA provides support to teachers and instructional programs.* Great membership benefits from local businesses* Be a Role Model. By becoming a PTA member, you’ll be demonstrating to your child the importance youplace on education* It’s only $5 per individual (That’s less than taking your child to the movies!)
I’d like to be involved, but I can’t afford the time. Many people think belonging to PTA means they have to volunteer dozens of hours each week. You can be a PTA member and not volunteer. PTA appreciates everyone’s membership, whether or not that member volunteers, because each member increases PTA’s ability to advocate for children.
Who We Are....Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Membership is open to anyone who believes in the Mission and Purposes of National Parent Teacher Association. Ways To Be Engaged in Your Student’s Learning and Support Lockheed ElementaryAttend PTA Meetings and Parent-Teacher ConferencesOur PTA meetings are great places to get important information about upcoming events, changes at the school, and policy updates. Each PTA meeting includes information about what’s happening at Lockheed, an update from Principal Lockheed a discussion of PTA business including upcoming programs, and a parent education component about how you can support your child’s education. Kids do better in school when parents are involved in their academic lives. Attending Teacher Conferences allows you to get to know your child's teacher and his or her expectations.Get InvolvedWhether kids are just starting kindergarten or entering their last year of elementary school, there are many good reasons for parents to volunteer at school. Volunteer and participate in school events and parent programs to show your student that you care and are committed to his or her learning and high school success.Take Attendance SeriouslyIt's important that kids arrive to school on time every day, because having to catch up with class work and homework can be stressful and interfere with learning. If your child is missing a lot of school, make sure to check with the teacher about any work that needs to be completed.Support Homework ExpectationsHomework in grade school reinforces and extends classroom learning and helps kids practice important study skills. It also helps them develop a sense of responsibility and a work ethic that will benefit them beyond the classroom.Send Your Child to School Ready to LearnA nutritious breakfast fuels up kids and gets them ready for the day. Kids also need the right amount of sleep to be alert and ready to learn all day. Lack of sleep can cause irritable or hyper types of behavior and might make it difficult for kids to pay attention in class. It's important to have a consistent bedtime routine, especially on school nights. Please feel free to contact us in you have any concerns or questions at Lockheed.PTA@yahoo.com
