Just to name a few –
    • Mondays she helps with the Hickory Hills Dragon Readers program which provides books to students who are struggling readers. She comes in and empties out the folder, checks reading logs and puts new books in them so that they are ready to be given back on Monday afternoons.
    • She also serves on the school’s PTA and is at all of Hickory Hills’ school events. This year alone she helped plan Frankly Spooky, Hickory Hills Art at the Marietta Museum of Art, and Taste of Hickory Hills.
    • Ms. Willder is also the room parent for her daughter’s second grade class. She planned the Winter Holiday Party and helped students with their gifts for their parents. She also continually donates extra funds for field trips to help cover the cost for students whose families could not afford it.

She has served in many capacities including, but not limited to the following:

Simple Needs GA is a nonprofit agency whose mission is to meet the simple needs of children, people experiencing homelessness, and others in need, while inspiring our community to do the same. The social work department met Brenda Rhodes, President and Founder of Simple Needs GA at a meeting with First United Methodist Church where she is active member on the missions team. From that meeting Marietta City Schools has partnered with Simple Needs GA to provide much needed items to our students and families.
As a result of this collaboration they expanded their outreach to include:
    • My Birthday Matters: which provides brand-new toys, school supplies, a no-sew blanket, underwear and socks, and other useful items to homeless schoolchildren celebrating their birthdays.
    • Shoe Them Love: a donation of a new pair of shoes to a child.
    • Simple Household Needs: which provides 'cleaning kits’ to help families sanitize their surroundings. Simple Needs GA also collects new or gently used items to help people in need turn a house or apartment into a home.
    • Spirits of Christmas: a program that aims to “fill in the gaps” by helping families who were unable to register for other local programs such as the MUST Toy Shop, Cobb Christmas and Toys for Tots.
