Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility requirements for gifted education services are set forth in Georgia Rule 160-4-2-.38. The school system is required to collect data in
- Mental abilities,
- Achievement,
- Creativity, and
- Motivation. A student can qualify through Option A or Option B:
Option A. A student must a). score at the 99th percentile (for grades K-2) or at or above the 96th percentile (for grades 3- 12) on the composite or full scale score of a standardized test of mental ability (e.g. CogAT) and b). score at or above the 90th percentile on the total battery, or total reading, or total mathematics component of a standardized test of achievement (e.g. ITBS)
OR
Option B. A student must meet eligibility criteria in at least 3 of 4 categories:
- Mental Ability – at or above the 96th percentile on a composite component or full scale score of a standardized mental ability test (e.g. CogAT);
- Achievement – at or above the 90th percentile on the composite, total reading, or total mathematics of a standardized achievement test (e.g. ITBS);
- Creativity – at or above the 90th percentile on a standardized creativity test (e.g. Torrance);
- Motivation- at or above the 90th percentile on a standardized motivational characteristics rating scale (e.g. GRS)
