Choice Academies FAQ's

Vision: The vision of Marietta City Schools is to be the school system of choice.
When can I apply?
Applications are accepted from the first school day of the second week of November through the last school day of the third week of January.
Who can apply?
Only current residents of the City of Marietta can apply.
Who should apply?
Only those parents/guardians wishing to choice/transfer their child from their current zoned school to a Marietta City Choice Academy need apply. If you do not want to choice/transfer your child from his/her current zoned school then you do not need to apply. If you are currently enrolled in a school as a result of a choice placement, school transfer agreement, or a tuition agreement, you need not submit a choice application.
Is a Choice Academy application required for siblings?
Yes, if you wish to choice/transfer a sibling from their current zoned school to a Marietta City Choice Academy, a choice application is required for that student.
How do I apply?
CHOICE ACADEMIES APPLICATION PROCESS
1. Complete both form (a) and (b) below:
- Choice Academies Application Form
Use this form to select your 1st and/or 2nd choice from among the Choice Academies* in the program.
* Marietta Center for Advanced Academics has separate admissions and eligibility criteria.
- Choice Academies Continuation Agreement Form
This form stipulates the criteria that must be met in order for your child to remain eligible to continue their choice status/enrollment at any Marietta City Choice Academy.
If you are a current resident of the Marietta City school district, and your child is not currently enrolled at an MCS school, the Choice Academies Application Form must be accompanied by the following additional support documentation:
- A Marietta City Schools student registration form
- Proof of residency (deed, lease, rental agreement)
- Current utility bill (water, gas, electric, home telephone or cable TV)
Return all required forms and any additional support documentation, by mail or fax, no later than the last school day of the third week of January to:

When will I know a decision regarding my school choice preference?
If we receive your completed application by the close of the application window (the last school day of the third week of January), you will receive a written notification regarding choice status no later than 15 days from the closing of the application window.
What if I move into the district after the Choice application period?
The application period for the Choice Academies program happens once a year. If you move into the district after the application period ends, you must wait to apply until the new application period is announced or request a transfer from your zoned school to a Choice Academy.
What is the difference between Choice and Transfer?
Choice provides parents and guardians an opportunity to choose, within a clearly defined window of eligibility, the elementary school best suited to their child’s talents and needs. Transfers can be requested at any time during the school year for reasons of health, significant childcare problems, or other legitimate or overriding concerns. Space must be available at the school and within the grade level requested before a Choice or transfer request can be approved.
What if my child is currently attending one of the Choice schools as a result of an approved transfer?
In order to remain eligible for Choice, parents and guardians of children who are currently enrolled as Choice or transfer students at any Marietta City Choice Academy must complete a Choice Academies Continuation Agreement Form and be in compliance with the criteria specified on the form.
Can I Choice more than once during the school year?
Placement into a Choice Academy can only occur once during a school year. Students are required to remain enrolled at the Choice Academy for the entire school year.
What happens if I am not selected for either my 1st or 2nd choices?
Because of the limited number of spaces available at each school, and within each grade level, we cannot guarantee that everyone will realize their 1st or 2nd choice. As a result, you may be placed on a waiting list pending availability of space.
