  • Overview

    Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, data-driven framework proven to reduce disciplinary incidents, increase a school’s sense of safety and support improved academic outcomes. More than 19,000 U.S. schools are implementing PBIS and saving countless instructional hours otherwise lost to discipline.
     
    The premise of PBIS is that continual teaching, combined with acknowledgement or feedback of positive student behavior will reduce unnecessary discipline and promote a climate of greater productivity, safety and learning. PBIS schools apply a multi-tiered approach to prevention, using disciplinary data and principles of behavior analysis to develop school-wide, targeted and individualized interventions and supports to improve school climate for all students.   • Students will be rewarded with devil dots throughout the day for exhibiting behaviors that embody the school's expectations of being PREPARED, PRODUCTIVE and POLITE. This could happen in the classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, bus or any other area on the school grounds. Students will be encouraged to keep their devil dots on their PBIS cards located in their agenda. (see image below). Every Monday, students will have the opportunity to redeem their devil dots with their Advisement teacher for various rewards. (See MMS PBIS Reward Matrix)

PBIS Parent Message & Form

  • We encourage our parents to join in supporting our school in achieving our goal of being PREPARED, PRODUCTIVE and POLITE. It is vital to the success of the program and our students that all members of the community are involved in the process.

    As a parent, here are some ways you can be PREPARED, PRODUCTIVE and POLITE:

    PREPARED:
    setting time aside to help your child with homework, talking to your child about their day and learning, and returning signed documents.

    PRODUCTIVE:
    attending school events, attending conferences with teacher, checking ASPEN once a week to monitor your child’s progress throughout the school year.

    POLITE:
    keeping open lines of communication with your child’s teachers and school staff members, and donating rewards to give to our students and staff for embodying the PBIS expectations and behaviors.

    PBIS is truly a win-win program for all involved.
