Advanced Studies Family Update - March 22, 2022
Dear MCS Family,
This email is for any family who will have a 6th or 7th grader next school year (2022-2023).
As a reminder, we are hosting a virtual town hall on Thursday, March 24, from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. The purpose of this town hall is to provide families with additional details about the Advanced Studies program at MSGA and MMS (for rising 6th and 7th graders; these course offerings do not apply to rising 8th graders). To join the town hall Thursday night, please use the following link: https://zoom.us/j/97214012633?pwd=Qkpwc1NoK20vcGhoUUs4UWJyMDdYQT09
In the coming weeks, your child’s teacher(s) will be recommending courses for next school year; later in April, families and students will be reviewing these recommendations and engaging with teachers about appropriate placements and, as necessary, course waivers into more advanced courses.
As a family, we want you to feel knowledgeable and engaged in this process — Thursday night’s town hall is yet one more opportunity for you to understand and partner with your child’s current and future teachers and administrators. Topics to be discussed include the following:
- Overview of Program and Student Learning Experiences
- Introductions of Principals and Program Coordinator
- Registration Timeline, Resources, and Personnel
- Advanced Studies Course Offerings
- Student Placement Matrix
- Waiver Process
- Family Q&A
The town hall will be recorded and posted online — you will receive a follow-up email with relevant attachments and the link for the recording.
We look forward to supporting you and your child during the registration process this spring and throughout the next school year. Should you have any questions or needs, please do not hesitate to reach out — we are all here to help!
