The System of Excellence
As an IB World School District, MCS offers the optional IB Primary Years Program for grades K-5, IB Middle Years Program for all students in grades 6-10, and the IB Diploma Program and Career-Related Program as an option for high school students in grades 11-12. It is one of only a few school systems nationwide able to provide the full IB (K-12) continuum. MCS is also home to one National Blue Ribbon School: Marietta Center for Advanced Academics; one National School of Excellence: A.L. Burruss Elementary; and five Georgia Schools of Excellence: A.L. Burruss Elementary, Marietta Center for Advanced Academics, West Side Elementary, Marietta Middle School, and Marietta High School. MCS is ranked nationally as among the Top Ten US School Districts in Digital Technology and was selected as the Georgia Charter System Foundation’s 2016 Charter System Innovator of the Year.
In 2013, Marietta City Schools (MCS) earned continuing accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), an accreditation division of AdvancED. In 2007, Marietta City Schools earned initial district accreditation as a quality school system from SACS CASI. District Accreditation is valid for five years and is the highest level of accreditation that a school system can receive from the SACS CASI organization. More»
National Civic League crowned the city of Marietta one of the ten best communities in the nation as a 2006 All-America City, the oldest and most respected community recognition award in the country. Our reading and literacy program, Marietta Reads!, played a significant role in Marietta’s selection as an All-America City.
MCS maintains a proud tradition of educational excellence because its citizens expect the best. From support provided by the Marietta Schools Foundation, teachers, administrators, and students receive recognition and incentives to excel.
Our schools enjoy low pupil-teacher ratios (20:1), high per pupil expenditures ($10,542- FY17 Budgeted), and excellent support staff provisions. Seventy-five percent of MCS certified staff have a Masters Degree or higher and our teachers are regularly recognized among the best in the state and nation. Technology plays an integral role throughout the system, and all teachers receive a laptop computer upon hiring.
