The System of Excellence
Marietta City Schools (MCS) is a Charter System that serves more than 8,900 students at eight elementary choice schools, one sixth grade academy, one middle school, and one high school. MCS is one of the first International Baccalaureate (IB) World School Districts in Georgia. As an IB World School District, MCS offers the optional IB Primary Years Programme for grades K-5, IB Middle Years Programme for all students in grades 6-10, and the IB Diploma Programme as an option for high school students in grades 11-12. Additionally, Marietta High School offers multiple industry-certified IB Career-related Programmes (CP), a framework of international education that incorporates the vision and educational principles of IB into career-related learning.Our vision is for all students to learn to their fullest potential. In partnership with families and the community, our mission is to prepare each student to maximize career, college, and life opportunities.MCS is ranked nationally as among the Top Ten US School Districts in Digital Technology and was selected as the Georgia Charter System Foundation’s 2016 Charter System Innovator of the Year.
In 2013, Marietta City Schools (MCS) earned continuing accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), an accreditation division of AdvancED. In 2007, Marietta City Schools earned initial district accreditation as a quality school system from SACS CASI. District Accreditation is valid for five years and is the highest level of accreditation that a school system can receive from the SACS CASI organization. More»

District ProfileThe Marietta City Schools system was created in February 1892, when 382 Marietta citizens cast votes in favor of a public school system for the city. The school bell rang for the first time on September 5, 1892, as 733 students attended class in four different locations. Joseph F. Stewart was the system's first superintendent.
