MCAA is a unique elementary (grades 3-5) magnet school in the Marietta City School District. Our students experience an accelerated curriculum that emphasizes science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics (STEAM) in a one-to-one computing environment. Our program emphasizes building the problem solvers of tomorrow while using engineering concepts as the common thread throughout all subjects. Students learn through an interdisciplinary approach in a project based learning environment.
MCAA is for children with an unquenchable thirst for learning. Our comprehensive and rigorous instructional program is based on the Georgia Standards for Excellence and is connected through integrated, interdisciplinary units of instruction. By using a balance of texts and technological resources, we provide an education that is challenging at higher levels and faster-paced than most traditional elementary learning environments. Our children master academic goals and problem-solving skills through a blend of creative, hands-on projects, and scientific investigation. MCAA students embark on a journey of active learning and experience instruction that provides them with a sense of accomplishment and productivity. As we encourage our students to go “Above the Line” as we uphold high standards of academic achievement
Marietta Center for Advanced Academics enjoys a rich history of academic excellence that is the direct result of collegial partnerships between the school staff, parents and community members. The school has been recognized numerous years as a National Blue Robbin School, a Georgia School of Excellence, and was the first Georgia State STEM Certified School. MCAA is also an AdvancEd STEM Certified school and has been a Georgia Platinum Award winner for Student Achievement for numerous years.
What makes MCAA a unique place for learning?
At MCAA, all students are provided laptop computers that are used to enhance classroom instruction in a wireless learning environment. The school also has a "bring your own technology" (BYOT) program. Students work collaboratively within an inquiry-based, technology-rich classroom. The school has three fully-equipped science labs and an engineering lab to complement the school’s instructional program. All elementary students complete capstone projects that are unique to the magnet program: An MCAA Reads Literary Project, Digital Science Fair and more.
MCAA offers all students STEAM courses that explore topics including: Introduction to Engineering, Schoolyard Ecology, Envirodesign Butterflies, Rollercoaster Physics, and much more! A daily emphasis on collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity is an integral part of the school day at MCAA. We use the engineering design process as the foundation for each STEAM challenge.
The school has a Learning Commons, Maker Space carts, SMART Technologies Lab, and three hands-on science labs. The school extends student learning through a variety of school clubs which include Girls without Limits, Science Olympiad, Lego League, and Odyssey of the Mind.
