Jeff DeJarnett, Vice-Chair, Ward 1
Jeff DeJarnett was elected to the unexpired Ward 1 term of Alan Levine in November 2021. He is Managing Broker of the Harry Norman Realtors Marietta office. He previously served as a sales associate with Harry Norman for more than 14 years where he specialized in residential, land, and equestrian properties. A native of Marietta, Jeff attended Marietta High School before earning a degree in Music Education at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. He immediately returned to Marietta where, for ten years, he taught instrumental music with both Cobb and Marietta City Schools. Jeff and his family spent the next 11 years living in the suburbs of Paris, France where he helped organize various musical events for local Protestant and Catholic churches. He is a member of the National Board of Realtors and the Cobb Association of Realtors. He and his wife Kibbie live close to the Marietta Square and are active at Stonebridge Church. They have 4 children and 6 grandchildren.

Jason Waters, Ward 2
Jason Waters, a Cobb County native, was elected to the Board in November 2013 and re-elected in 2017. Professionally, he works as a Chief Financial Officer and Licensed Mortgage Originator. Waters is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™.

A.B. Almy, Ward 3
A.B. Almy joins the board for her first term this year. After earning her undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University, she taught high school through the Teach For America program. A few years into her teaching career, she joined the Teach For America Special Education cohort where she managed over 100 teachers, working with them to increase student achievement. Recently, she has served as co-chair of the School Governance Team at West Side Elementary. She and her husband, Chad, have two students currently enrolled in Marietta City Schools and one who will be the third West Side Stinger in the family next year.
Ms. Almy serves as the district's liaison for the Marietta Schools Foundation.

Jaillene Hunter, Ward 4
Jaillene Hunter was elected to Ward 4 in November of 2021. She is the mother of four boys who are 5th generation Marietta students and wife of Marietta graduate, Mitch. She serves as PTA co-president at West Side Elementary, on the Board of Directors of Marietta’s Mentoring for Leadership, and Wellstar Kennestone Hospital’s Regional Health Board. As the former Communications Director for Lt. Governor Casey Cagle, she helped develop and implement Georgia’s Charter Systems and College and Career Academy programs. Ms. Hunter graduated from Norcross High School and received a B.A. in Communications from Taylor University. She and her family are active members of Stonebridge Church.

Angela Orange, Ward 5
Angela Orange is a native of rural south Georgia, but has lived in Marietta for the past several years. A former middle school teacher and current managing director at Teach for America, Ms. Orange holds degrees from both Emory University and the University of Georgia. Having worked in public education for over 15 years, Ms. Orange brings a strong understanding of classroom needs and campus dynamics to Marietta City Schools. Angela was sworn in as the Board's newest member, January 2018.

Board Of Education Duties

- Enact policies that guide the operation of the system; Adopt programs of study and evaluate program effectiveness;
- Employ staff members upon recommendation of the superintendent;
- Approve budgets, financial reports and major expenditures;
- Provide funds for operation;
- Establish and maintain a system of records and accounts;
- Plan for the expansion, improvement and financing of the capital building program;
- Keep the public informed on school issues
- Act as a tribunal at certain employee and student hearings.
