Little Mermaid, Jr.”. Feb. 3 & 5

West Side Elementary students recently performed “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” at the historic Strand Theatre in Marietta. This is the fifth year West Side has partnered with the Strand Theatre to support the West Side Drama Club. We are grateful for the support shown by the Strand Theatre as a valued Partner in Education.
Park Street Partner Donation
Helps Families, Jan. 10

Park Street Elementary students and families are benefactors of the more than $900 in clothes, medication and Wal-Mart gift cards to help purchase eyeglasses, donated by Marietta Power and Water, a Park Street Partner in Education. Read more
PIE Holiday TourHickory Hills PIE
Holiday Tour, Dec. 17

Hickory Hills Elementary hosted a Partners in Education (PIE) Holiday Tour featuring students from the Advanced Arts Pathways Drama Group. The Civitan Club, Cobb County Courthouse, and Hawkins, Moore and Cubbedge LLC enjoyed a holiday performance led by drama specialist Mary Gagliardi, music director Danny Echols and student choral leader Tyier Farnum-Davis.
SOARLockheed Celebrates
SOAR, Dec. 16

Exemplary Lockheed Elementary students recently decorated holiday cookies and danced with friends during the SOAR-labration Celebration Party. Each quarter Lockheed Elementary students earn a celebration party sponsored by one the school's Partners in Education. This month's party was sponsored by Liberty Mutual.
Performing PanthersPark Street Performing Panthers Spread Holiday Cheer, Dec. 13
The Park Street Elementary Performing Panthers chorus recently visited four Partners In Education: Metro Ambulance Company, United Community Bank, Marietta Power & Water and Chick-fil-A. The students performed five holiday selections.

Education Partner, Dec. 12

Marietta Performance Learning Center (MPLC) recently welcomed the Black Chief Officers, Inc. Atlanta Chapter as a Partner in Education. The organization is comprised of local retired African-American Fire Chiefs, and will sponsor the MPLC Clothing Boutique and recognition incentives.

Connections Forum, Nov. 15

Marietta Center for Advanced Academics (MCAA) hosted a Community Connections Forum attended by a number of Partners in Education including, Shan Cooper (VP/General Manager, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics), Ron Newcomb (President, Chattahoochee Technical College), Dean Arlinda Eaton (Kennesaw State University Dean of Education), and Dr. Zvi Szafran, Vice President Academic Affairs, Southern Polytechnic State University. According to Dr. Szafran, “MCAA’s principal, Jennifer Hernandez, has done an outstanding job in implementing the mission, ‘learning without limits’, at the school. The school is extremely impressive, and the fact that it has won numerous state and national awards comes as no surprise whatever."

Teacher for a Day, Sept. 24

The Cobb Chamber’s Teacher for a Day (TFAD) program recently provided Jessica Blakemore, a recruiter at Troy University, an opportunity to shadow Sawyer Road Elementary Teacher of the Year Kristen Dawson. The TFAD program helps the community better understand the work of public schools and empowers them to support the educational process in Cobb County.

Teacher for a Day, Sept. 24

The Cobb Chamber’s Teacher for a Day (TFAD) program recently provided David Kapper, owner of CL!X Portrait Studios, an opportunity to shadow West Side Elementary kindergarten teacher Mrs. Reeser. David led a math SMART Board activity, attended P.E., and read books. He was a great teacher! The TFAD program helps the community better understand the work of public schools and empowers them to support the educational
process in Cobb County.

Sept. 16

Marietta Center for Advanced Academics (MCAA) students and staff and school Partners In Education— Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, Southern Polytechnic State University, Kennesaw State University and Chattahoochee Technical College—eagerly watched their community rocket as it was hoisted to the roof of the school building. The collaborative rocket design/build project involved all partners and took approximately six months from start to finish.

70th AnniversaryPark Street Celebrates
70th Anniversary, Sept. 14

Park Street Elementary recently celebrated its 70th birthday with a weekend festival event. Partner in Education, Stonebridge Church, worked collaboratively with the school to sponsor an outreach day supplying volunteers, games, lunch and a huge birthday cake to celebrate the new school year and Park Street’s 70th year anniversary. Several hundred families attended the festival.
Arts PartnerHickory Hills Welcomes Arts Partner, Aug. 29
Hickory Hills Elementary recently welcomed The Young Actor’s Playhouse (YAP) as a new Partner in Education. YAP is located at The Theater in the Square in downtown Marietta, and will deliver enrichment lessons in the dramatic arts and assist the school with two play productions this school year.
MCMA PartnershipHickory Hills Welcomes
MCMA Partnership, Aug. 29

Hickory Hills Elementary recently welcomed the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art (MCMA) as a new Partner in Education. MCMA’s Traveling Trunk program will kick off the partnership. The Traveling Trunk program is a new and exciting educational opportunity from MCMA, designed to reach out to schools, organizations, and the community through art.
