TRANSPORTATION ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • MCS Transportation Wins Tyler Public Sector Excellence Award

The Board of Education is proud to announce that Marietta City Schools has been selected as a 2019 Tyler Public Sector Excellence Award winner. The award is for the district’s focus on student safety through the implementation of “Marietta Ride 360,” a mobile application from Traversa which gives MCS families the ability to access bus routes, stops, pick-ups and drop-offs in real time using GPS technology.

Marietta City Schools was the second school district in Georgia to offer this transportation service after months of research and development by transportation and operations employees. Launched in November of 2018, the application has enrolled 1,227 users in only four months. The MCS Department of Transportation will attend the Tyler Connect 2019 conference in April to receive the award.

Tyler Public Sector Excellence Awards recognizes public organizations for their significant commitment to public service and striving for greater efficiency and effectiveness in serving their community.

“We have a responsibility to over-communicate with our MCS families when their child is on a school bus,” said Superintendent Grant Rivera. “Marietta Ride 360 is a smartphone app, much like Uber, that will detail both the location of a bus and the exact arrival time. No more guessing and no more waiting.”

“MCS is the second school district in Georgia to offer this service from Traversa, one of the nation’s leaders in routing software,” said Assistant Superintendent of Operations, Erick Hofstetter. “Our transportation team has worked tirelessly over the last year to bring this GPS technology to Marietta City Schools. Our goal has always been to make the life of an MCS family just a bit easier – we are excited about doing just that with this new app.”

Bus Routes/School Eligibility

  • Please check the Route Schedules for your student’s school below. Routing information is posted for the 2018-2019 school year. Slight adjustments continue to be made; therefore, please verify your bus and stop information prior to the start of school. The PM stop time may vary slightly depending upon actual dismissal time from the school especially during the first 10 days of school. Elementary schools need to ensure that all bus riders have orange (8 and under) or green (9 and older) identification tags to help bus drivers identify the students and their proper bus stop. All parents are asked to ensure that their elementary aged children who ride the bus keep the orange and green tags attached to their book bags. This aids the schools and bus drivers in delivering your child to their bus stop.

There will be few changes during the first ten days of school while we consolidate and review all bus stop appeals for nearly 400 bus routes. If ask if you are going to submit an appeal that you do so within the first three days of school so we can hopefully make one change only to each bus route. All Bus Stop Appeal forms that were received by the June deadline date have been reviewed and changes made as necessary. All bus stop changes will appear on new routes posted August 17th. Parents are asked to transport their children to the closest bus stop or to their school if necessary until their appeal is reviewed.

Please be reminded that students should be at the bus stop at least five (5) minutes before the scheduled bus arrival time in the morning for their safety.

Students who are eight years and younger should have a responsible person (13 and older) meet them at their afternoon bus stop. Students eight and under may be returned to Park Street Elementary School, 105 Park Street, Marietta GA for their parents to pick them up. The entrance for the After School Program is on the south side of the building on the lower level nearest the athletic field. You may also use the After School Program at your child’s school on those days you will not be home to pick up your child. Registration is $10 with a daily fee of $7. You will have to call your child’s school and let them know of any changes prior to bus dismissal. For more information on our 8 and under policy, please click link below.

FAQs

  • What should parents/guardians do if their student(s) does not arrive at his/her bus stop?

Parents should contact Marietta City Schools Transportation Department Dispatch Desk at 770.429.3110  Dispatch can usually communicate the name of the missing student to the driver to confirm if the student did indeed board the school bus. If this cannot be confirmed, dispatch will issue an "all call" to all bus routes from the student's school. Parents should also contact their school to determine if the student boarded a bus or is attending an After School Program.

What should parents (guardians) do if the school bus arrives late at the bus stop?

Parents should contact the  Transportation Department Dispatch Desk at 770.429.3110  for an update on the bus route and any delays it may have encountered. Dispatch can also provide an update on the pickup or drop off time if the bus has already serviced the bus stop in question. If the bus is more than 10-15 minutes late in the morning, parents should contact the Dispatch Desk for an updated arrival time. MCS Transportation will always run a bus to service a stop even if the bus is going to run late. Breakfast is held for any students arriving late to school aboard a school bus and students are not counted as tardy.

Bus Safety

  • MCS Deploys School Bus Stop Arm Safety Initiative

Marietta City Schools (MCS) and American Traffic Solutions (ATS) are deploying CrossingGuard®, ATS’ new technology to help school districts address the growing problem of illegal passing of stopped school buses that are boarding or disembarking children. In 2011, Georgia passed legislation to permit counties to equip school buses with video cameras to catch drivers who illegally drive by school buses when they stop to pick up or drop off students.
