Marietta Reads! One Book Marietta Project:
The One Book Marietta project was created to provide the Marietta Community a common experience of reading the same book so that impromptu book discussions, shared inquiry, as well as organized book clubs and events can spring up to connect us through a literary work. Adult readers can model reading and serve as literacy leaders to our youth. The One Book for the 2018-19 school year was unveiled at the Marietta Reads! kick-off on Saturday, October 27, from 10:00-2:00 on the Marietta Square. This year's One Book Marietta is "Aunt Chip and the Triple Creek Dam Affair" by Patricia Polacco. "Aunt Chip and the Triple Creek Dam Affair" questions how much TV is too much TV? Welcome to Triple Creek, where the townspeople watch TV day and night. They watch it when they're eating, working, playing, and sleeping. They even use TVs to teach the kids at school. But when Eli's eccentric Aunt Chip (who refuses to own a TV) discovers that her nephew and her neighbors don't remember how to read, she pulls the plug on the whole town by using the books that have been piled high to build a dam to spread the magic of reading all around. We encourage you to read and enjoy this year's One Book Marietta!
