Rising Kindergarten Parent Information

Welcome to West Side!  We are thrilled to become an important part of your child's social, emotional, and academic growth!  We invite you to read Dr. Wagoner's welcome letter to all rising Kindergarten families, found at the bottom of this page.

Please mark your calendar with these important dates planned exclusively for our new Kindergarten students.

• Kindergarten Screener – Please sign your child up for a 20-minute screener on July 19^th and July 20^th. Your child will work individually with one of our Kindergarten teachers to preview Kindergarten skills.  This individual time will give our teachers an opportunity to learn your child before the year begins.  Parents/Guardians should plan to stay for the duration of your child’s appointment time.  If your child is unable to attend one of the appointment times his/her teacher will complete the Kindergarten Skills Check during the first week of school.  Please reserve your child’s appointment time by July 8^th at the following link – Kindergarten Screener
• Popsicles on the Playground – Please join our PTA for Popsicles on the Playground.  This is an opportunity for you and your child to meet other rising Kindergarten families and students.  Join us on the playground on Wednesday, July 20^th from 2:30-3:30 PM.  All children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event.  No RSVP is required. 
• Kindergarten Parent Night – Kindergarten teachers, school administration, and PTA will offer an evening for parents to learn important information that will get you acquainted with school/classroom procedures.  You will also preview sign-ups and PTA booths that will be available to all families at Sneak-a-Peek on Tuesday, August 2^nd.  This event is for parents/guardians.  Please plan to attend on Thursday, July 28^th from 6:00 PM-7:30 PM.

Dear Rising West Side Kindergarten Families,

In just a few short weeks, your child will begin Kindergarten at West Side!  You are likely feeling bittersweet about the start of your child’s elementary school years.  It is my hope your excitement grows as you watch your child exchange his/her swimsuit for a new backpack.  Thank you for entrusting our staff with this important first year of school and through all your child’s elementary school years! 

To help our planning for the upcoming school year, please complete your child’s registration at the following link if you have not already done so – Marietta City Schools Registration Gateway.  If you have trouble with online registration, please reach out to our enrollment clerk, Harriette Price (hprice@marietta-city.k12.ga.us).  Mrs. Price will be available to assist you beginning July 11^th.  It is very important to complete your child’s registration to stay informed about the transition events described below. 

To support your child’s transition to kindergarten, we are offering three events before the start of the school year.  We encourage you to plan for your child to attend these events.

• Purchase West Side Uniforms – Follow the link to read our school uniform policy.  PTA will provide advanced sales in July.  Look for information to come!

• First day of School – August 3^rd
