Football runs during the fall season and is governed by the Georgia Middle School Athletics Association (GMSAA). There is a post-season with multiple rounds of playoffs that culminate in a championship game. Teams typically practice 4 days per week at the start of the regular season, and then transition to 3 days after the first few weeks. Games are played on Saturdays.

The typical season timeline begins with voluntary summer workouts during the months of June and July, leading right into the start of the regular season in early August. The regular season runs through the end of October, with the potential for post-season play during November. Additionally, football has a short spring season (about 2 weeks) at the end of the school year to help acclimate and prepare players prior to summer workouts.
