20 Years strong, Sawyer Road Elementary unveils a renewed campus

20 Years strong, Sawyer Road Elementary unveils a renewed campus

MARIETTA, GA – Marietta City Schools (MCS) students, families, and community partners came together today to celebrate the renovation and 20th anniversary of Sawyer Road Elementary School.

The renovation project, made possible through voter-approved Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST VI) funds, represents a $7.7 million investment in creating a modern, welcoming, and inspiring environment for students and staff. E-SPLOST, renewed by Cobb County voters in 2021, provides critical funding for capital projects across the district without raising local property taxes.

“Facilities don’t teach kids—great teachers do—but the right environment amplifies their impact,” said Superintendent Grant Rivera, “This project is a concrete way we support the daily work in every classroom.”

Upgrades at Sawyer Road include new flooring and ceilings, lighting enhancements, window and partial roof replacements, electrical and plumbing improvements, fresh paint, and resurfaced parking areas. These improvements are designed to support both student learning and staff well-being.

The celebration also marked a milestone for new principal Jill Waldrep, who began her first year leading Sawyer Road Elementary this school year.

The renovation was completed over the summer by R.K. Redding Construction, Inc., which worked closely with district leaders to ensure the project was finished in time for the start of the school year. Community partners, including the Credit Union of Georgia, Breaux & Associates Architects, C & S Paving, Inc., PORCH Marietta, along with former principals, educators, and current members of the MCS Board of Education, joined in the celebration to honor both the school’s history and its bright future.

Marietta City Schools extends its gratitude to R.K. Redding Construction, Inc., Credit Union of Georgia, and the Marietta community for their continued investment and support in ensuring that Sawyer Road remains a place where students can dream, achieve, and succeed.
