Jill Waldrep announced as new principal of Sawyer Road Elementary
Marietta, GA – Jill Waldrep has been named the new principal of Sawyer Road Elementary School. She was approved by the MCS Board of Education in a unanimous vote last night. Waldrep, a dedicated and experienced educator with 27 years in education, brings a deep commitment to student achievement, instructional excellence, and relationship-building to her new role.
Currently serving as Assistant Principal at A.L. Burruss Elementary, Waldrep has played a vital role in fostering a collaborative and student-centered learning environment. Her leadership has been instrumental in improving student outcomes through data-driven instruction, structured professional learning communities, and a strong focus on literacy.“I am honored to join the Sawyer Road community, and I’m eager to work alongside students, families, and staff to continue the school’s legacy of excellence,” Waldrep said. “I believe in building strong relationships, being visible and accessible, and ensuring every child receives the support they need to succeed. I look forward to a collaborative and impactful school year ahead.”
Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a passion for literacy and curriculum development, leveraging her training in the Science of Reading to sustain and enhance academic growth. Waldrep’s expertise in instructional best practices and commitment to professional capacity-building have helped drive student success in Marietta City Schools.

Waldrep’s career in education began in Cobb County before she joined MCS in 2015. In addition to Burruss, she also served as an Assistant Principal at Lockheed Elementary, where she significantly impacted student achievement and school culture. Her leadership philosophy centers on trust, clear communication, and ensuring all students feel heard, valued, and supported.
