Marietta High School Achieves Record-High Graduation Rate
Marietta City Schools (MCS) has made history with a record-high graduation rate of 91.4% for the 2024 cohort. This milestone marks the school’s highest graduation rate since the state began using the adjusted cohort calculation in 2011.
MCS had a graduation rate increase of 5 percentage points, which was the highest gain of any metro Atlanta school district; by comparison, Georgia’s statewide graduation rate of 85.4% represented an increase of just 1 percentage point. Marietta City Schools now has the fourth-highest graduation rate in metro Atlanta; only Forsyth County Schools, City Schools of Decatur, and Buford City Schools achieved higher.
This year, significant graduation rate improvements were seen across several student groups:
● Black students increased from 86.1% to 90.4%, a gain of 4.3 percentage points.
● Economically Disadvantaged students increased from 84.1% to 90.3%, an increase of 6.2 percentage points.
● Hispanic students rose from 80.8% to 88.9%, a gain of 8.1 percentage points.
● Students With Disabilities improved from 77.8% to 87.0%, an increase of 9.2 percentage points.
● English Learners showed remarkable progress, jumping from 69.6% to 83.8%, an improvement of 14.2 percentage points.
“These graduation rates are more than just numbers—they represent the resilience and determination of our students, educators, and families,” said Superintendent Grant Rivera. “It’s a testament to what can be achieved when we come together to support every child in crossing the graduation stage.”
Under the direction of Dr. Marvin Crumbs, the record-high graduation rate demonstrates the continued growth at Marietta High School (MHS). The MHS Class of 2024 achieved an 11-point gain on the SAT, demonstrating the second-highest growth in metro Atlanta this past year. Additionally, across all grades and content areas, MHS had significant achievement gains on the 2024 Georgia Milestones End-of-Course exams (American Literature and Composition +4%, Algebra: Concepts & Connections +16%, Biology +8%, and U.S. History + 4%). Of particular note, MHS had the highest gains in Algebra of any metro Atlanta school district.
"At Marietta High School, we pride ourselves on cultivating an atmosphere where students are challenged to grow academically and personally as they prepare for enrollment, enlistment, or employment,” said Principal Crumbs. “These remarkable statistics speak to the hard work of our students and the relentless support of our educators. We will continue pushing forward, knowing that each success story shapes our school and the greater community."
