MCS Board of Education recognized as a 2025 GSBA Exemplary Board

MCS Board of Education recognized as a 2025 GSBA Exemplary Board

MARIETTA, GA — For the third year in a row, the Marietta City Schools (MCS) Board of Education has been recognized with the Georgia School Boards Association’s (GSBA) Exemplary Board Recognition, the highest level of achievement in GSBA’s board recognition program.

This distinction reflects the Board’s ongoing commitment to effective governance, continuous improvement, and transparency in decision-making — all in service of the students, staff, and families of Marietta City Schools.

“Strong schools start with strong governance,” said Superintendent Dr. Grant Rivera. “I’m grateful for a Board that models collaboration, accountability, and an unwavering focus on what matters most — the success and well-being of every child in Marietta.”

To earn this recognition, the Board met and exceeded rigorous standards set by GSBA, designed to ensure local school boards demonstrate best practices in leadership and community engagement.

“Receiving this recognition for a third consecutive year speaks to our collective dedication to Marietta’s children,” said Ward 5 Board Member Angela Orange, who also serves as the Region 7 Director for the Georgia School Boards Association.“We take seriously the trust our community places in us, and we remain focused on decisions that strengthen teaching, learning, and opportunity across our district.”

The GSBA Board Recognition Program — developed by Georgia superintendents and school board members and grounded in the State Board of Education’s Standards for Effective Governance — includes three levels of recognition: Quality Board, Distinguished Board, and Exemplary Board.

Earning the Exemplary distinction represents the highest mark of achievement for school boards in Georgia and underscores the MCS Board’s continued focus on student achievement, fiscal accountability, and community partnership.
