MCS Combined Choir heads to the Big Apple for a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity”

MCS Combined Choir heads to the Big Apple for a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity”

It is said that within the storied walls of Carnegie Hall, every note sung echoes through history. Soon, the voices of 48 students from Marietta City Schools will become part of this iconic legacy. The Marietta City Schools Combined Choir, featuring singers from Marietta Middle School and Marietta High School, will perform on one of the world's most prestigious stages in New York City before a sold-out audience on March 28.

"Performing at Carnegie Hall isn't just a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity; it's an affirmation of our students' incredible dedication and talent," said Dr. Woods. "It's a moment they will carry with them throughout their lives, and we couldn’t be prouder to witness their growth."

Before this significant performance, Dr. Brittny Woods, Director of Choral Activities at Marietta High School, and Erin Layton, Chorus Director at Marietta Middle School, led the students in a performance preview to families, teachers, peers, and community members who offered well wishes, hugs, and a standing ovation yesterday evening at Marietta Middle School.

Students will participate in Carnegie Hall's Harmonic Convergence Concert Series, joining distinguished ensembles and renowned musicians nationwide. The choir's Carnegie Hall program spans musical genres, featuring works from renowned composers such as Rollo Dilworth and Coty Raven Morris, which were carefully selected to showcase the choir's exceptional versatility and emotional depth.

"Our students have worked diligently, honing their artistry, technical skills, and the ability to connect deeply with each piece," Erin Layton shared. "Music has an extraordinary power to unite and inspire, and we are excited to stand with our students on an international stage."

Marietta City Schools is recognized for academic rigor, athletic excellence, and artistic accomplishment and was recently named the 2024 Best Community for Music Education. The Carnegie Hall performance further exemplifies the district's commitment to arts education and its mission to nurture students academically, socially, emotionally, and creatively through a comprehensive Fine Arts curriculum.
