MCS names Barbie Esquijarosa Director of Multilingual Learners
Marietta, GA – Marietta City Schools has appointed Barbie Esquijarosa as the district’s new Director of Multilingual Learners. With more than 20 years of experience in education, Esquijarosa brings a wealth of expertise and a deep commitment to student success, literacy, and equity.
Esquijarosa has served in multiple roles throughout her career, including classroom teacher, instructional specialist, and district English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) coordinator. Most recently, she led the district’s 6–12 ESOL program, where her leadership played a key role in driving significant academic gains for English learners. Under her guidance, Marietta’s middle grades sheltered program saw a 10.05% increase in English Language Arts scores and a 13.67% increase in math scores, surpassing district performance targets and creating new pathways for student growth.
Esquijarosa holds a Master’s degree in Reading Instruction and is completing her doctorate in School Improvement with a concentration in ESOL. She is passionate about the power of literacy as a gateway to opportunity and believes that family engagement and educator empowerment are essential to student success.
In her new role, Esquijarosa will continue working alongside teachers, staff, and families to ensure Marietta City Schools’ multilingual learners have the tools, resources, and support they need to reach their full potential.
