MHS Students Achieve Higher ACT Scores, Surpassing State and National Averages
MARIETTA, GA— Marietta High School (MHS) Class of 2024 shows continued success, achieving higher average composite ACT scores this year and surpassing state and national averages. Students' composite score was 22.7, an increase of 0.8 points from last year's average of 21.9.
"Marietta High School students are outperforming students across the state and nation, showing exceptional growth," said Superintendent Dr. Grant Rivera. "The success we see is a reflection of the dedication of our teachers, the support from families, and the hard work of our students. These achievements reflect the success of our entire Marietta community."
Key Highlights:
● MCS Ranked 9th in the State of Georgia: Among all school districts in Georgia, Marietta City Schools ranked 9th in composite ACT score, which is up from 14th last year.
● MCS Surpasses State and National Averages: MCS students outperformed both the state and national averages in every ACT subject area and overall composite score.
● MCS Literacy Among the Best in the State: In the areas of ACT English and Reading, MCS students ranked fifth and sixth, respectively, among all school districts in Georgia.
● MCS Growth Among Top in Metro Atlanta: Marietta City Schools showed the third highest growth in metro Atlanta on the ACT composite score; only Gwinnett and Decatur City Schools showed more growth compared to 2023.
● MCS Student Subgroups Make Significant Gains:
○ Black Students: From 2023 to 2024, composite score increased by 0.4; by comparison, Georgia decreased by 0.3, and the Nation remained unchanged.
○ Hispanic Students: From 2023 to 2024, composite score significantly increased by 2.2, while Georgia and the Nation remained unchanged.
○ White Students: From 2023 to 2024, composite score increased by 0.4, while Georgia remained unchanged, and the Nation decreased by 0.1.
● MCS Increases ACT Participation: The Class of 2024 saw an increase of 8.5% in ACT participation.

The Year of Achievement Across All Academic Areas
The success on the ACT is just one part of Marietta High School's accomplishments this year.
Historic Graduation Rate: MHS celebrated a record-high graduation rate of 91.4%, the highest since the state adopted the adjusted cohort calculation in 2011. This represents a 5-percentage point increase, the largest gain among metro Atlanta school districts.
Excellence in Mathematics Achievement: Marietta High School students demonstrated exceptional growth in mathematics, particularly in Algebra. The school achieved a 16% increase in proficiency on the Algebra: Concepts & Connections End-of-Course exam, marking the highest gain in Algebra among metro Atlanta schools. This remarkable improvement reflects our commitment to STEM education and the hard work of our students and educators.
Outstanding SAT Performance: The Class of 2024 achieved an 11-point gain on the SAT, marking the second-highest growth in metro Atlanta and reinforcing the school's upward trajectory.
Excellence in Georgia Milestones Assessments: Beyond mathematics, Marietta High School students demonstrated significant achievement gains across all grades and content areas on the 2024 Georgia Milestones End-of-Course exams:
● Biology: +8% increase in proficiency
● American Literature and Composition: +4% increase
● U.S. History: +4% increase
