Veteran educator hired to lead division of student services at MCS
Marietta, GA — Marietta City Schools (MCS) has announced the appointment of Dr. Tris Gilland as Chief of Student Services, bringing nearly three decades of experience in special education and student support. The MCS Board of Education approved the hire at its meeting Tuesday night.
As Chief of Student Services, Dr. Tris Gilland will lead one of the most critical divisions in the district, overseeing programs and services that support the academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and adaptive needs of students. Dr. Gilland most recently served as Executive Director of Services for Exceptional Children in Fulton County Schools and has a long-standing record of leadership at the district and state levels.
“It’s a privilege to join a district so deeply committed to the success of every learner,” said Dr. Gilland. “I look forward to working in partnership with families, staff, and students to ensure our supports are not only effective, but truly responsive to the needs of our community.”
A former classroom teacher, behavior analyst, and special education director, Dr. Gilland has also served as President of the Georgia Council of Administrators of Special Education (G-CASE) and has led efforts to strengthen inclusive practices across Georgia.
