West Side Elementary Principal Appointed to New Georgia Literacy Task Force

MARIETTA, Ga. – West Side Elementary Principal Dr. Christina Wagoner has been appointed by the Lieutenant Governor to serve on the newly created Georgia Literacy Task Force.

The appointment comes as Georgia continues a statewide focus on early literacy. The task force will work to ensure every K–3rd grade child in Georgia has quality instructional materials grounded in the science of reading, every teacher gets the professional learning to teach reading effectively, and every parent knows how their child is meeting key literacy milestones.

"I am honored to have been appointed to serve on the Georgia Literacy Task Force, advising educational leaders and districts on key literacy initiatives," said Dr. Wagoner. "All Georgia children have the right to an education that guarantees a literate future. The future for every Georgia child begins at the front door of our public schools. I look forward to sharing the lessons learned and success stories from our work in Marietta to influence the work of the task force."

Marietta City Schools is proud to continue shaping what comes next for students learning to read across the state, and Dr. Wagoner's appointment reflects the literacy work happening across the district and the leadership she brings to West Side every day.

Officials said the task force will work to continue implementing literacy reforms, strengthen resources for educators, and ensure every child has a strong foundation for learning from their earliest years in the classroom.

Congratulations, Dr. Wagoner!
