Why did we establish the program?
Research shows that students with even small savings accounts are four times more likely to graduate from high school. It is our hope that the Be Somebody Savings program will help boost graduation rates, empower students, and make financial literacy and preparedness part of their educational journey. This incentive program will be available to students at Marietta High School, starting with the Class of 2029, who must meet certain annual checkpoints in grades 9-12. In return, the Cobb Community Foundation will grant up to $1,000 to each qualifying student upon graduation. These funds are intended to assist with college, career, or life expenses. More details will be shared via email with the 9th grade class and their families.
How can I contribute to the program?
Funding for the Be Somebody Savings Program comes primarily from the PEACH Education Tax Credit Program. If you know you will owe Georgia taxes, it’s simple to apply: you fill out an application online, indicate that you want to purchase tax credits to benefit Marietta City Schools, mail in payment for the portion of your state tax liability you wish to redirect, and then claim the credit when you file your taxes the following year.
If you don’t want to purchase tax credits, you also can give online directly to the Be Somebody Savings Fund at the Cobb Community Foundation.
