Nutrition Promotions

Marietta City Schools has teamed up with Georgia Grown to provide fresh, seasonal, and locally grown fruits and vegetables for our kids. The Georgia Grown program has brought together producers, suppliers, distributors, and retailers in one large community to create sustainability, quality, and integrity.

The Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program is USDA funded to help fight childhood obesity. This program is designed to introduce school age children to a variety of fresh produce that they might have never been exposed to otherwise. Five of Marietta City Schools, including Park Street, Lockheed, Sawyer Road, and Hickory Hills, will be providing the students with a fresh new fruit or vegetable daily! Nutrition education is part of this grant and is provided via monthly newsletters to the teachers.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation was founded by the American Heart Association to reduce the prevalence of obesity by promoting healthy lifestyle changes for generations to come. Four of Marietta City Schools, including Marietta High School, West Side ES, Lockheed ES, and A.L. Burruss ES, are committed to implementing healthy changes that build upon on another to make a healthier environment for the kids.
