Georgia School Boards Association’s Youth Advisory Council

Marietta City Schools (MCS) would like to congratulate Eric Suster for being named to the Georgia School Boards Association’s (GSBA) Youth Advisory Council. Selected from students who applied from all across the state of Georgia, Eric will represent MCS on the council. He will be able to provide valuable insights and aid school board members in their decision-making process. The council meets once a month from August until November and includes attending the GSBA winter conference in November.

Harvard Debate Champion

Marietta City Schools would like to congratulate Marietta High School junior Trina Whitaker for being named the 2023 Harvard Debate Champion. Trina attended Harvard Debate Council’s summer debate residency. During the residency, she participated in classes taught by Harvard and Oxford professors.

The residency concluded with a two-day debate competition where she competed against students across the world. Her success was fueled by her participation in the Veritas Debate Institute, a Saturday school program aimed at preparing Atlanta youth for advanced academic challenges.

Marietta City Schools Art Display

Marietta City Schools would like to congratulate the five students whose art is displayed in the MCS Board Room: Lainey Brown, third-grade student at A.L. Burruss Elementary; Raymond Martin, fourth-grade student at Marietta Center for Advanced Academics; Kaelan Usher, fourth-grade student Marietta Center for Advanced Academics; Landry Lomax, eighth-grade student at Marietta Middle School; and Tiah Carthers, twelfth-grade student at Marietta High School. The art teachers from the schools selected the pieces that were displayed. The display of artwork shows the dedication to visual arts from MCS students around the district. A different set of schools will be selected each quarter, highlighting our students' many visual art skills.

Governor's Honors Program Students

Marietta City Schools would like to congratulate the six Marietta High School students chosen as finalists for the 2023 Governor’s Honors Program (GHP):

  • Junior Isabella Gantt, Social Studies
  • Senior Kalyan Piovesan Toussaint, Engineering- Mechanical Design
  • Senior Elizabeth Smith, Social Studies
  • Senior Charlotte Leiter, Visual Arts
  • Senior Gabriela O’Neill, Visual Arts
  • Senior Tiah Carthers, Theatre Performance

As a finalist, these students spent one month on an all-expense paid program at Georgia Southern University, attending classes in their field of study. GHP finalists are chosen after multiple rounds of interviews against other students from across the state to participate in this program.

Employee Special Recognition

Marietta City Schools (MCS) would like to recognize MCS Director of Maintenance, Jimmy Pace, for his outstanding commitment and support to ensuring our schools are safe, clean, and function seamlessly. During a recent storm, Jimmy was out before schools started, checking routes for buses and clearing debris from schools. He continuously goes above and beyond to make sure our students are learning in safe environments.
