Atlanta Dream comes to A.L. Burruss for basketball clinic
MARIETTA, GA – The WNBA’s Atlanta Dream will hold a basketball clinic at A.L. Burruss Elementary School on Friday.
Superintendent Grant Rivera and Principal Jillian Johnson will welcome two members of the Atlanta Dream and team representatives to help almost 80 students improve their game.
This is part of the Atlanta Dream’s Power Her Dreams initiative, a partnership with Microsoft that aims to empower girls ages 6 -14 through sports and STEM. The clinic intersects Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math modules with basketball drills in a fun learning environment focused on fostering self-confidence, teamwork, and collaboration.
“Our STEM pipeline begins in elementary schools, strengthens in middle school, and extends in high school with community partnerships and multiple STEM pathway options,” said Marietta City Schools Superintendent Grant Rivera, “From using their learning garden to understanding the science of flight students at Burruss are fully engaged in STEM learning. We are thrilled to have these team members help grow our students on the court and in the classroom.”
The clinic is also intended to help students learn how playing basketball can act as a catalyst for achieving their dreams.
