Georgia School Counselor Association Honors Dr. Rivera as 2023 Advocate of the Year

The Georgia School Counselor Association (GSCA) announced that Superintendent Dr. Grant Rivera has been chosen as the 2023 Advocate of the Year. This prestigious award is a testament to Dr. Rivera's unwavering commitment and dedication to the betterment of Georgia's children.

"Education is not just about imparting knowledge. It's about nurturing the potential in every child. That's why I'm honored to receive this award," said Dr. Rivera, "We must ensure they have the tools to thrive in an ever-changing world. As educators, our mission goes beyond the classroom; it's about shaping the future by empowering the next generation with resilience, adaptability, and a lifelong love for learning."

The GSCA Professional Recognition Selection Committee, led by co-chairs Kimberly Geer, Heather Alvira, and Tarcheka Peterkin, made the selection after recognizing Dr. Rivera's significant contributions to the profession. 

In a letter informing Dr. Rivera of the honor, the organization said he had "earned much gratitude for your efforts on behalf of Georgia's children, who are certainly better off for having been touched by your commitment and dedication to our profession."

The GSCA is dedicated to supporting school counselors in their mission to promote student success. The association provides professional development, resources, and advocacy for its members, ensuring that all students have access to comprehensive school counseling programs.

The GSCA congratulated Dr. Rivera for the high standards of quality and professionalism he brings to the association.
