Marietta, GA – The Marietta City Schools Board of Education has elected Jeff DeJarnett as Board Chair and Jason Waters as Vice-Chair. The unanimous vote happened Tuesday night.

DeJarnett brings a rich background in education and community service. A native of Marietta, he attended Marietta High School before earning a degree in Music Education at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. He immediately returned to Marietta, where he taught instrumental music with both Cobb and Marietta City Schools for ten years.

The Board Chair presides over Board meetings, ensuring a smooth flow of discussions and decisions and signing official documents.

"I am deeply honored by this opportunity to serve. My goal is to foster a collaborative environment where every voice is heard, and every decision is made with our students' best interests at heart," said DeJarnett. "I am excited about the future and look forward to contributing to the ongoing growth and excellence of our schools."

Waters, the second longest-serving member of the Marietta School Board with a decade of dedicated service, is stepping into the role of Vice Chair. Having three children enrolled in the district, his commitment to the successful future of Marietta City Schools is unwavering.

"I am committed to working alongside Jeff and the rest of the board to continue advancing the quality of education in our city," Waters said. " Together, we will strive to enhance our educational programs, support our dedicated teachers and staff, and ensure that every student in Marietta City Schools has access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed."

In addition to these appointments, the Board has also selected Jaillene Hunter to continue to serve as the Legislative Liaison. Her role will be crucial in communicating and collaborating with the Georgia General Assembly to support the district's legislative needs.

Finally, Kerry Minervini has been appointed to be the Board’s liaison to the Marietta Schools Foundation, a key position strengthening the partnership between the Board of Education and the Foundation.

These appointments will ensure strong leadership and representation for Marietta City Schools. The Board looks forward to a productive year under this new leadership team.
