Marietta City Schools set to honor historic graduating Class of 2024

Marietta City Schools is gearing up for the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2024 this week. Graduation will take place on May 23, 2024, at Northcutt Stadium. This year, MCS celebrates its largest graduating class to date, with 631 students ready to receive their diplomas.

This graduating class stands out for its remarkable academic accomplishments, with students admitted to Ivy League institutions and renowned military academies. These seniors have received over $2.8 million in scholarships, excluding HOPE and Zell recipients, and have been accepted to more than 120 colleges and universities nationwide. Eighty students will earn the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, known for its challenging global curriculum. More than 60 seniors will graduate from the IB Career-Related Program, showcasing their diverse talents and dedication.

"These students are graduating from MHS with both passion and a plan. We’ve helped them write this chapter, and now it’s time for them to write their own,” said Superintendent Grant Rivera, “With their whole lives ahead of them, they’re ready to face future challenges with grace and determination. I have no doubt they’ll continue to inspire us with their courage and vision and live out their dreams in a way that makes the world around them better every day.”

Many students are also preparing to enter the workforce and serve their country. Graduates have secured positions with companies like C.W. Matthews, United Electric, the Atlanta Braves, and more. Six students have committed to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces.

"Watching these students grow and achieve has been an incredible journey,” said MHS Principal Dr. Marvin Crumbs, “Their diverse talents and relentless pursuit of excellence have set a high bar for future classes. As they graduate, I am confident they will continue to break barriers and set new standards of success. Our Marietta community could not be prouder.”

The gates will open at 6:20 p.m. and close at 7:20 p.m. to allow seating before the graduates enter the stadium. The ceremony is scheduled to begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. The event will also be live-streamed on Blue Devil News.

Graduates are required to park at the First United Methodist Church of Marietta or may be dropped off on-site.
